Living La Vida Lucca!

So to recap……..we were in Lucca for MN to recuperate and get rehab for her knee….cap!

We hadn’t gone with huge expectations of Lucca, but what a wonderful active month we had!

My favourite ball playing spaces happily coincided with MJ’s fascination with churches.

Piazza San Martino was HUGE
Golden boy in front of the Basilica of San Frediano
Double trouble in front of our favourite watering holes- self service fountain for me and Undici Undici cafe for mummies

We also took advantage of Lucca’s location to explore more of Tuscany and Umbria..

Pisa Pete!
Beach ball at Viareggio. MJ loved it here as the town was really Christmassy!
This area has the longest  sandy beaches in Italy with the stunning Apuan Alps as a backdrop. Mummies thought there was snow on top, but hadn’t realised they were called the Magnificent Marble Mountains for a reason !

A particular highlight was an overnight trip to Assisi where I paid my respects at Saint Francis Church, which had incredible views over the plains. Inside, there were beautiful , moving chapels. The whole town was simply stunning.

San Gimignano was another series of photo opportunities, which included a glimpse into mummies’ futures!

Back in Lucca, we were fortunate enough to enjoy blue skies, promenades on the wall, and unusual shopping opportunities. ( We also went to Collodi, home of Pinocchio, but our advice is – don’t!)

Every two years Lucca hosts an art and design event where everything is made of paper. It aims to make us reflect on current affairs.
4km of walls means 4km of ball!

HELP ME!

Looking ahead to hopefully a white Christmas and New Year, we decided to visit the local ski resort of Abetone! I found the one patch of snow and mummies found a delicious lunch!

So after 33 nights, the beginning of Advent and the start of Christmas excitement it was time to head north for festive fun with friends…………….
